February the students will also attend "Through the Eyes of a Friend" at
Memorial Auditorium, which is also related to the Holocaust as it was
experienced by a young Jewish girl.

Arttango Art Show held at Adrian
Elementary on May 16, 2008
Third grade students
from Adrian Elementary and two classes from Prairie Elementary in
Worthington received a mini-grant from NCIC to use the Arttango
curriculum throughout the year and get together for a joint art show in
May.
Students had the
opportunity to display their art work for peers and family members.
They had the opportunity to tell others about their art work and to ask
their peers questions about their projects as well.
The program was
coordinated by Ms. Heck, Mrs. Kerkaert, Ms. Knipps, and Mrs. Buschena.
We appreciate the time they invested in making this a successful
integration experience!

Elementary
Spanish
|
|
For the last five years
students in Brewster/Round Lake, Fulda and Worthington have received
Spanish language instruction and multi-cultural education from licensed
elementary teachers. This Elementary Spanish program sponsored by NCIC is an exploratory program in
which students have one or two lessons per week throughout the school
year. Research shows that younger children are able to learn additional
languages more quickly, so this program capitalizes on children’s natural
ability to learn languages at an early age.

English
- Spanish Interchange
|
|
Adults
who wish to learn either Spanish or English may take advantage of this unique
program. Individuals who wish to learn Spanish attend the first hour of
the class to study the Spanish language, then they participate in a
30-minute interchange time with native Spanish speakers who are in the
process of learning English. Following the interchange time, the
Spanish- speaking students remain for an English lesson. Childcare and
transportation are available.

Three groups from NCIC performed at the
International Festival on July 12. Local high school students gave
a Quinceanera demonstration, elementary students performed an East
African dance and five adults performed a Veracruz dance wearing
traditional costumes from that region of Mexico.
We appreciate the time each of the
participants volunteered to make these performances possible.
8th-Grade Dynamic 507 youth received a mini-grant from
Delta Dental to plan and implement an oral health program for younger
youth in the community. Students will be making at least two
presentations in May and touring a local dentist office to learn about
careers in the dental field.
