Graduate students from Dakota Wesleyan University
visit NCIC for three days to learn about cultural integration and
diversity in education
A group of graduate students from Dakota Wesleyan University will be
visiting Adult Basic Education classes this Tuesday, May 11th
through may 13th. The eleven students are all part of a human
relations class led by Professor Gloria Leonard and most are
pursuing either a Master’s degree or an administrative licensure.
Their majors range from English and Spanish to Biology and Physical
Education.
The trip is meant to give students an opportunity to experience and
learn about diversity in an educational setting.
Although this is the fourth group from Dakota Wesleyan to visit, it
is the first time graduate students have been involved.
The students will be working with the morning Collaborative English,
Employment Readiness, and Citizenship classes. They will work in
groups with the Adult Basic Education students on cultural exchange
topics.

Color Project at Brewster Elementary
School
Dynamic 507 did the Color Project for
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on January 18, 2010 at Brewster
Elementary School. The day consisted of students learning about the
importance of skin color and not to judge others by how they look or who
they are, but by the content of their character. The students were then
able to match their skin color with different paints and do a
self-portrait.

Elementary
Spanish
|
|
For the last five years
students in Brewster/Round Lake, Fulda and Worthington have received
Spanish language instruction and multi-cultural education from licensed
elementary teachers. This Elementary Spanish program sponsored by NCIC is an exploratory program in
which students have one or two lessons per week throughout the school
year. Research shows that younger children are able to learn additional
languages more quickly, so this program capitalizes on children’s natural
ability to learn languages at an early age.

30-minute interchange time with native Spanish speakers who are in the
process of learning English. Following the interchange time, the
Spanish- speaking students remain for an English lesson. Childcare and
