English Language Development

English language development (ELD) instruction supports multilingual learners in developing the academic and social English language skills needed to access grade level content. EL teachers coordinate instruction with homeroom teachers and provide support through co-teaching, push-in, and/or the pull-out model.  The ELD and grade level standards drive instruction. A summative English language proficiency assessment is given each year to track progress along with frequent formative assessments. Teachers value and encourage the use of each student’s home language. Staff strive to involve the entire school community and family members in the education of our multilingual learners to meet the linguistic, academic, social, emotional, and cultural needs of each student.
