Art
The Worthington High School Visual Art Department prides itself on creating an inviting and nurturing environment. Our students are continually encouraged to explore their creative personal voice through social, cultural, and historical contexts that influence them as young artists. Visual Art challenges our students in ways that exercise their brains, and teaches them to be creative thinkers and problem solvers; a valuable asset to any career path they may choose.
Visual Arts students at WHS have opportunities to take a wide variety of visual art classes that may be hard to find at most High Schools in our Tri-State area; classes offered include: Intro to Art, Drawing, Printmaking, Painting, Crafts, Stained Glass, Sculpture, and Ceramics. Graphic Design and Digital Photography are also offered for students interested in Computer Arts and Technology
Many of our students excel in our visual art programs, and have won awards competing at both the local and state levels. Students leaving WHS will have developed a solid background in the fundamental areas of visual arts. Those whom have chosen to further their education at the collegiate level have done very well; many have gone on to become successful leaders in their selected art careers, whether in design or studio arts.
We have a passion for what we do here in the Art Deptartment at WHS! The love of what we teach, and transferring that knowledge through the wonderful experiences our students encounter here, is the most rewarding thing of all.
“A MIND ONCE STRETCHED BY A NEW IDEA, NEVER REGAINS ITS ORIGINAL DIMENSION.”
~Leonardo DaVinci
The Annual Area Student Art Show is held on the first Friday in March, with an opening reception 5-7pm. It is located at the Nobles County Art Center (in the basement of the Nobles County Library). Mark your calendar to attend next year and help support our fine young artists!
