About Our Teachers
Mrs. Bents
I am Bonita Bents and I have been teaching in the Family and Consumer Science Department at Worthington High School since 1999. I enjoy teaching in this vocational area because of the wide variety of programs offered and how they have important real life application. At Worthington there are many class offerings to appeal to a variety of students. Food Fitness combines healthy food knowledge, exercise, and food science activities. The three levels of food classes include Food Exploration with focus on United States Regional foods, Foods and Nutrition understanding the importance of nutrients in your diet and advanced skills in the kitchen, and Cultures and Cuisine where the students travel the world in the kitchen with a variety of unique cuisines and flavors. There are also two levels of Child Development starting out with a mechanical baby experience and advancing to developing and teaching a Preschool lab with young participants. Independent Living is a class to focus on many of the financial decisions that need to be made intertwined with fun projects. Creative Sewing takes students in a technical direction with the use of equipment to produce a variety of projects using various materials and techniques. Teen issues is a discussion class where students voice their opinion while learning about themselves others. Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is the organization I work with that is associated with the department.
I graduated from South Dakota State University in Brookings with my secondary education teaching license in Family and Consumer Science and later went on to add an adult education license in Parent and Family Education. I have also taken classes at Le Cordon Bleu in Minneapolis and have my food service license. I have been involved in the surrounding communities teaching after college in Round Lake, Worthington Junior High and now Worthington High School. I worked with the Early Childhood Family Education program as a parent facilitator for several years in Round Lake, Sioux Valley and Worthington.
What I enjoy most about Worthington High School has to do with the great community and the variety of students and cultures that are together in my classroom. They are so friendly and have many experiences to share. What I enjoy most about my career is being able to teach skills and see success with my students.
Miss Tatym Zins
My name is Tatym Zins and I teach Family and Consumer Sciences. I grew up in Fulda, MN then went to South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD where I graduated in December of 2020. I love teaching FACS because students get to learn applicable skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. Outside of school I enjoy sewing, playing piano, and spending time with my family.
